Peninsula Kamchatka
Volcanoes of Kamchatka

Volcanoes of KamchatkaThere are about 300 volcanoes on peninsula Kamchatka and 29 of them are active. The Valley of Gaysers is the pearl of the peninsula. Volcanoes are obligatory part of peninsula. They have given a life to thermal sources which have different temperatures and mineral structure. Thermal springs are discovered, and recreation bases and sanatorias in Paratunka and Nachiki use their medical qualities.

Action of volcanoes has generated the inexhaustible mineral wealth: gold, platinum, sulphyrer, coal, gas, peat, tin and mercury are kept in the entrails of Kamchatka. And semiprecious stones are found in Kamchatka’s earth: a jasper, chalcedony, rhondonite, agate. Kamchatka is the land of mountains. Mountains cover the main part of the peninsula. The northern part of the territory is occupied by the Koryak Plateau; the Sredinny and Eastern rangers (height from 1500 to 2000 m) stretch almost parallel along the peninsula. Between them the lowland Tsentralnokamchatskaja is located. In its average part there is Kluchevskaya group of volcanoes. Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest volcano of Kamchatka and the Far East (4688 meters). Along the western coast of peninsula the extensive boggy West-Kamchatka lowland reaches. In the north of the Kamchatka the Koryak uplands with the highest mountain Ledenaya is located (2453 m).

Volcanoes of KamchatkaThe nature of Kamchatka is rich and vulnerable. Any kind of plants and animals is unique. The tundra is an empire of bushes, low grasses, lichens and mosses. The conditions of life in tundra are very severe, only those plants and insects which endure a cold weather, strong winds, frozen ground are existed. Reindeers, foxes and wolverines, snow rams, wolves, bears and hares are the indispensable feature of tundra. The bird’s world is less variety due to the small number of their population.

Among all Kamchatka’s forest species elfin cedar deserves a special attention. Trees protect mountains and rivers of peninsula. A wood-grouse and an owl, a horned owl, a wolverine and a moose, a bear and a sable, an ermine and a fox propagate and spread in forests. There is also rare specie of birds of prey included into the Red Book: Steller’s Sea Eagle. Kamchatka peninsula is one of the world’s corners where so many species of marine mammals co-exist: sea lions, common seals, sea hare’s (lakhtak), larga seals. It is impossible to list all inhabitants of seas, bogs, forests and valleys of Kamchatka.
